Letter from Coach Aidan

The Fernie Fox Invitational in April was a big success in every way.  The board and coaching team want to express their gratitude for all the volunteers who helped us create a great weekend. I also want to thank all the board members for their hard work.  It was a fabulous spring meet, and I received positive feedback from many out-of-town teams.

Calgary’s NCSA team, who brought 100 swimmers, has already declared that they’re attending our Fall Halloween Howler Meet.

Coach Spencer and our junior coaches did an excellent job with swimmers who had a range of experience. We had 66 swimmers compete, a record for the Dolphins ever at any meet. It was especially exciting to see the Pups attending their first competition and having a positive experience. The coaches have noticed how motivated and inspired all the Pups were post swim meet. The new swimmers were excited about their ribbons and want to compete in more meets!

Since the home meet, EVDSC has welcomed 19 new pups to the team! Spencer will be in the water with the new swimmers on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I will jump in the water with them on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The board and coaching team are excited to see recent growth in the team. Currently, EVDSC has the most swimmers ever registered in the club, sitting at approximately 100 swimmers!

This weekend, Coach Angie will be taking 16 swimmers to Lethbridge for our first long course meet. 39 of our swimmers are already declared for Radium on the first weekend of June. Angie & Spencer will coach that meet. 10 swimmers have declared for Missoula. Remember, there’s still time to sign swimmers up for this grand finale meet in Montana which promises to be a lot of fun for everyone.

For more senior swimmers, the season will culminate with Man/SK Provincial Championships in Saskatoon. EVDSC already has 5 swimmers qualified and expect to see more qualification swims in Lethbridge, Radium, and Montana.

I’ve been talking with the Nelson coach about combining travel to the provincial championship to save costs and build camaraderie. It’s great to see Kootenay swimming growing and relationships between the teams developing.

BC Summer Games will be held from July 12-14 in Prince George. 4 EVDSC swimmers have been shortlisted. Congratulations to Maddox, Abbi, Ava, and Adam!

The Masters swimming program is also growing with 16 swimmers registered for spring session.

Finally, it’s been great to welcome alumnus Brock Thomlinson back to the pool. Returned from his first year at University of Alberta, he’s joining us for practices and meets until the end of the season. We’re always happy to welcome our graduated Dolphins home.

All around – lots of exciting developments and energy at the Fernie Aquatic Centre this spring and more excitement to come. Go, Dolphins!
