Parent Code of Conduct
The essential elements of character building and ethics in athletics are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship. Therefore I agree to the following:
1. I will respect all of the rules provided to families. I will abide by all rules and respect the employees and the equipment of the Fernie Aquatic Centre.
2. I will enure my athlete arrives to practices and meets on time and prepared.
3. I will encourage a healthy lifestyle including nutritious foods and adequate sleep.
4. As a parent, I agree not to speak to the coaches or swimmers while the session is on. I will refrain from coaching any swimmer (from stands or any other area) during practices and meets. In addition any questions or comments I have will be directed in a positive constructive manner at the appropriate time between practices or to a member of the EVDSC Board of Directors.
5. I will not engage in destructive gossip regarding coaches, staff, parents, opponents, athletes or officials.
6. I will respect and appreciate the value of volunteers and officials. They are parents trying to do their job well. All concerns will be voiced to the EVDSC Board only.
7. I will encourage/engage in full participation at practices, competitions, fundraising activities and social events. I understand that without parent volunteers our swim club would not function.
8. As a parent, I will applaud good effort by all athletes and offer praise for competing fairly and trying hard. I understand that personal best times are as important as winning. Athletes will support one another; older swimmers are asked to be an example to younger swimmers and help out with younger, inexperienced swimmers as needed.
9. As a parent, I will be a positive role model for all athletes and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all swimmers, coaches, officials, and spectators at every practice or sporting event. I understand that young people learn best by example.
10. I will not use profanity of any type at any time.
11. The EVDSC supports and abides by the Swimming Canada harassment policy. It can be found on Swimming Canada website (see https://www.swimming.ca/en/harassment-policy-and-procedure/ ). All harassments should be reported to the EVDSC Board.
